Take a #PuppyBreak. Come on, you deserve it. A new puppy featured every Wednesday!

Merlin the Great Pyrenees puppy has only been on this earth for 4 months, but in that time he has managed to mend the broken hearts of a family in mourning and delight Instagram users with his majestic fluffiness.

Artist Sarah M. Wall tragically lost her 18-month-old Great Pyrenees/St. Bernard mix, Mooshoo, to complications of epilepsy in January. Her sister searched high and low for a Great Pyrenees puppy — a breed rarely found in Ireland. Although Merlin can never replace Mooshoo, his silly behavior and gentle nature have helped heal the wounds of Mooshoo’s loss. As fate would have it, Merlin was born the very week that Mooshoo passed away.

Merlin is the perfect combination of rowdiness and sweetness, according to Sarah. He is already about 65 pounds of goofy, awkward puppy fluff and will likely top out at about 120 pounds once he’s fully grown. He seems to be aware of his massive size and takes care to mind his P’s and Q’s around children and smaller animals. When he sees them coming he plunks down on his delightfully floofy booty and sits calmly to put their fears at ease.

Unlike some of his canine cousins, Merlin adores bath time and anything to do with water. He prefers to get his drinks from the garden hose rather than a boring old bowl, Sarah tells BarkPost. His favorite past time is sitting calmly by the local lake watching the geese and swans. Typical of a Great Pyr, Merlin is as stubborn as an ox and often refuses to leave his lakeside paradise. Sarah has been forced to carry him home – which is getting increasingly more difficult as he grows exponentially!

Being an independent artist, Sarah is able to work from home, and her 13-year-old daughter is home schooled. Lucky Merlin gets to spend nearly 24 hours a day with his favorite humans. Although he can be independent when he wants to be (like when he is laser focused on his avian friends at the lake), he also delights in flopping his giant body over his mom’s feet as she paints.

This derpy, lovable, impossibly fluffy pup came into the Walls’ lives just when they needed him most. Although it has only been a few months, he has already taken his place within the family like the missing piece of a puzzle. It doesn’t hurt that he’s ridiculously good looking, either!
