Editor’s Note: It’s no secret here at the BarkPost and BarkBox that we love ourselves some celebrity pups. From Digby, to Tuna, to Toast— famous internet dogs are the best. One way many of these pups have received a big boost in followers is getting featured by other big Instagram accounts– and no one’s bigger than the uber pup-ular Dogs of Instagram account. Below are some of their tips on how to get selected as a pup of the moment.
You don’t have to be a trained photographer to get your picture on @DogsofInstagram, but there are a few basics. Good lighting and clarity are good. Grainy, pixelated shots are bad. If you’re using a smartphone, natural light always helps.
Capture a Moment
You spend so much time with your friend. You know their personality and you get what makes them special. Now, it’s our turn find out. Make sure the picture captures your dog’s personality. A little patience goes a long way when you finally get that cute or funny or beautiful shot. We look through a couple hundred pictures every day. Grab our attention!
Tell Us Your Story
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which is why we love Instagram but give us just little bit more. What’s your best friend’s name? Do you know what breed(s) she is? Was he a rescue? A photo recently crossed 55,000 ‘likes’ on our feed and it was because there was a great story to go along with it. Oh, and don’t forget to tell us your Instagram username so we can give you credit.

Send a Few
Pick the best ones and send them. We love having a few pictures to pick from. Should we post the one of him with his tongue out a little or tongue out a lot? For us, these are the very important details we sit down and discuss.
