Fromm Family Foods is voluntarily recalling three types of its canned dog food due to possible elevated vitamin D levels. This is the company’s first recall in 114 years.

The recalled products are:

Fromm Gold Chicken Pate Dog Food 12 ounce cans
Can case code: #11893
Individual can UPC: 72705 11892

Fromm Gold Chicken & Duck
Can case code: #11895
Individual can UPC: 72705 11894

Fromm Gold Salmon & Chicken Pate
Can case code: #11891
Individual UPC: 72705 11890

fromm recall 2

These products were shipped to retail locations between December 2015 and February 2016.

In a statement posted on their website, Fromm had this to say:

The impact of the excess Vitamin D should be seen only when dogs have eaten these products as their exclusive meals for an extended period of time. We would expect to see a reduction in appetite. We have not received any reports of this or any other health problems, but recommend that you not feed these products to your dog.

Fromm recommends that customers call their customer service line with any questions at 800-325-6331.

This recall is similar to a Purina recall that occurred last week, as some of the company’s tubs of dog food did not contain the recommended amounts of vitamins and minerals.
