During a recent Q&A at a coffee shop in Iowa, a woman asked Hillary Clinton and unexpected question. It wasn’t about the hot topics that are currently in the news. Instead, it was about puppy mills.

She said to the former Secretary of State:

“When you become president, this is what I would like you to do, I would like to see every single dog and cat mill across the country shut down.”

Hillary, who has dogs of her own and co-sponsored the Animal Fighting Prohibition Act, had this to say:

“I share your concern about these mills. From everything I know about them, they really are terrible places for any animal, and particularly for dogs and cats. We do need to do more.”

The woman added a follow up comment, saying that she thinks animal cruelty cases should be classified as penalties. Here’s what Hillary had to say in response:

“I think for some egregious examples, and there are some, they would rise to a felony. Not all of them, perhaps. I don’t know that we can say that.”

Topics like these aren’t usually brought up during political campaigns, but we’re glad to see them being discussed. Hopefully, that will drive real change that will save the lives of our beloved pets.
