A 10-month-old Pit Bull puppy named Remy, adopted by his human Mike Incremona, endured quite an exhausting weekend. Somehow, Remy got lost and jumped off a dock in Toms River, New Jersey, treading water for 10 hours before sinking legs-deep into muddy marshland.

No one is sure quite how long he was trapped in the muck, but when a group of teenage girls in kayaks spotted the distressed pup, they pulled him free and carried him through the water onto dry land.

Postal Carrier Al Font witnessed the rescue in action—he had just seen one of Incremona’s hundreds of handmade “lost dog” signs, and immediately put two and two together. Remy had doggy paddled from the dock all the way around to a small inlet, but the ordeal left him filthy, tired, and covered with ticks.

“[H]e lost weight, four pounds,” Incremona told WABC,”[I] brought him to the vet who said he lost weight because he was treading water all night.”

It’s not clear how exactly Remy made it out to the dock in the first place, but a sizable group of people came together to help him find his human, and that’s really all that matters.

Font said, after calling Incremona with the number on the flyers, that the man “looked at me with the most sincere eyes and it was like he’d found a lost child.” The mushball of a pup was all Pittie grins and tail wags at the reunion, and is probably the reason Incremona will need to invest in a doggy life vest.

Thank you to everyone who helped Remy from the water and reunite with his best friend! We’re not sure which one is happier. See the full news report below.
