There’s a PAWSOME new film coming out this week, and it’s the perfect way to help rescue dogs and have some family fun at the same time!

Rescue Dogs the Movie, which opens on Friday, is the first film of its kind. It is a talking-dog family film about rescue animals, featuring actual rescues!

Rescue Dogs follows the story of Tracy and his rescue canine companion Charger, who have to save their beach restaurant from an evil businessman who wants to buy them off in order to build a golf course. Busted Buggy Entertainment founder Courtney Daniels produces and acts in the movie, something near and dear to her heart as both an entertainer and a mom of seven rescues herself.

In addition to screening in 25 cities and counting, the movie has also partnered with over 20 charities across the country. They will be hosting live adoption events during the opening weekend, as well as donating 20% of the producer’s box office sales to the charity involved with each specific theater.

One of these special pups looking for her forever home is Rihanna in New York City. Rihanna got a lot of attention a few years ago (over three years to be exact) when she was rescued from her former life as a bait dog, but even after attending training courses, she still has yet to find her perfect forever home.

Rihanna’s rescue, Second Chance Rescue NYC, has named her the official NYC mascot for Rescue Dogs the Movie, and is hoping that the attention that this movie and event bring will finally get her the home that she so desperately needs. Busted Buggy Entertainment has even agreed to pay for her adoption fees, and her new family will receive continued training support from Allied Dog Training. Will you be the family to give Rihanna a chance?

Another pup up for adoption that will be featured during the adoption drives is Shushanna. This beauty was rescued by Unleashed Rescue in Kansas City, and they will be hosting a barbecue after the film for people to enjoy some food and go meet Shushanna and other pups looking for homes. She can be seen here in this Fox 4 KC news clip with Courtney Daniels herself:

Screenings for Rescue Dogs can be found here, and you can buy tickets by clicking on the city nearest you. Second Chance Rescue and their pups will be participating in the Malverne, NY screenings this weekend, April 2-3, with 11am matinees each day. They will also be holding adoption drives from 9:30am – 1 pm on both days as well. Kansas City screenings will be held at the Cinemark 20 in Merriam, KS, with more details here.
