My dog Ammo the Dachshund and I love to go wild in the summertime! Adventure awaits around every corner, and it’s always more fun when you can have your dog by your side! Here are some of our favorite summer activities!

1. Stand-up Paddle Boarding

Many lakes with boat rentals allow your pet to hop on board. Paddleboarding, kayaking, and sailing are just so much more fun when your favorite canine companion is by your side. Just make sure your pup wears his life vest!

2. Camping

Pack your bags and pitch a tent, because camping with your dog is an inexpensive way to have a vacation with your best friend in the great outdoors.

3. Baseball

Many major and minor league baseball teams now have “dog days” where your furry friend can attend a game with you. Check out this list of ballparks that have dog friendly events.

4. Outdoor Movie

While your pup might not be able to catch a movie with you in the theater, they can when it’s in the park! Many areas offer free outdoor movies in the park for residents during the summer months. Check with your local township to see if any are available in your area. And don’t forget to bring the popcorn!

5. Biking

Enjoy an afternoon bike ride with your dog. You can use bike baskets designed for the smaller dogs, tag along trailers, or even a bike leash attachment so your dog can enjoy the ride with you.

6. Dining

Summer months are perfect for outdoor dining. Many restaurants allow your four-legged friend to dine with you outside, and some even offer their own doggie menus.

7. Frisbee Golf

This fun outdoor activity can be enjoyed with your dog in many state and local parks. As a bonus if you have a larger dog, they can even carry your frisbees for you!

8. Ice Cream

On those hot summer days, nothing is better for cooling off than a scoop of ice cream. Bring your pup along for a cool summer treat as many ice cream shops now offer a doggie menu. Just make sure to steer clear of the chocolate!

9. The Pool

If you’re lucky enough to have a pool (or a friend who does) grab a raft and spend the day drifting with your dog. Or you can even purchase a kiddie pool so your pup can cool off in your own backyard.

10. The Beach

Many beaches are pet friendly all year round. Make sure you bring water and shade to keep your pup from overheating and watch out for exceptionally hot sand that can burn paws!
