History, barbecue and natural beauty are awaiting you and your dog in the Palmetto State! Hiking adventures, beer tastings and unforgettable camping destinations make a trip to South Carolina truly worth planning.  Don’t miss out on any of these 7 spots.

1. James Island County Dog Park

This is no ordinary dog park. Located in Charleston, this park offers over four acres of pure doggy bliss. Bordered by water, there are numerous areas where your dog can jump in and swim right alongside kayakers. There are sections for big and small dogs and picnic benches for the humans. They even have concerts here in the dog park. There is a $2.00 fee for humans, but dogs get in free.

2. Camping At Edisto Beach State Park

This 1255-acre park includes a dense maritime forest and an expansive salt marsh where you can explore untouched nature with your dog. The park offers two campgrounds – one on the beach and one further inland within the maritime forest. After a walk on the beach, take your dog on one of the many trails and boardwalks. This park offers visitors a chance to break free from technology and truly enjoy the great outdoors. Pets are not allowed in the cabins or the cabin area but are allowed in most other outdoor areas, provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash.

3. River Dog Brewing Company

Located in Ridgeland, South Carolina, River Dog Brewing Company is a microbrewery for homemade drafts, offering tours and beer by flight, pint or to-go growler. Yes, we said to-go. With a down-home feel and a charming South Carolina flair, dogs are always welcome to enjoy the day away with you at their outside seating area. They are happy to serve up an ice cold water bowl for your dog and recommend a pint, or two for you.

4. Waterfront Park

Waterfront Park is one of South Carolina’s most visited parks. Walk your dog with views of the Charleston Harbor, sailboats and large ships heading in and out on the water. It is a great place to sit and relax for a spell after a long day of sightseeing with your dog. Get some ice cream for you and your buddy and sit in one of the many old-fashioned park benches throughout the park. Make sure to pick up after your dog so that everyone can enjoy picnics on the huge lawn. Come at night for a different view and to see the fountains lit up. This is truly Southern charm at its best.

5. A Long Walk On The Beach At Hunting Island State Park

Hunting Island is South Carolina’s single most popular state park and it attracts more than a million visitors a year! Take your leashed dog for a peaceful, unspoiled walk on the beach. This state park has five miles of pristine South Carolina beach front, thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet. Walk your dog to the Hunting Island Lighthouse to gaze up at one of the state’s only publicly assessable lighthouses, but they will have to remain outside. Stay with your dog at the park’s campground to fully enjoy this area, but make reservations well in advance as it is popular with humans and dogs alike!
