If Georgia isn’t on your mind, it should be. Georgia offers dog parents endless opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors and learn about its rich history. With many areas and attractions being dog friendly, there is no excuse to stay at home. Did we mention there are wineries?
1. Forsyth Park, Savannah Georgia
Take your dog to Forsyth Park for a peaceful walk while gazing at the beautiful fountains for the perfect photo opportunity! Enjoy one of the many outdoor concerts and savor a picnic on the lawn. People and dogs alike love Savannah. Dog-friendly Savannah offers visitors a trip back in time with shops and restaurants alongside the river and in well kept parks.
2. Captain Mike’s Dolphin Tours, Tybee Island, Georgia
Spend an afternoon out on a boat with your dog! As you meander along the coast of Tybee Island on Captain Mike’s tour, you and your dog will see Cockspur Lighthouse, Fort Pulaski, Tybee Lighthouse, and dolphins in the wild. Dogs must be well-behaved, leashed, and love the water. There is a limit of one dog per person, so call ahead before you book online.
This lake has 132 miles of shoreline that is perfect for many outdoor activities with your dog! Secluded coves and endless campgrounds located on this scenic lake shore make this an ideal place to hike with your dog along various trails in the area and all lead to the famous Appalachian Trail.
4. Historic Jekyll Island, Georgia
Jekyll Island is touted to be one of the most dog-friendly destinations in Georgia. Take your leashed dog to Driftwood Beach to snap some Instagram-worthy photos, then pick up a map at the visitor’s center located in the historic district. Take a jaunt with your dog and admire the beautiful homes while imagining how the rich used to live in this beautiful area. Stop for some ice cream at Islands Sweet Shoppe and park your RV or pitch a tent at peaceful Jekyll Island Campground. Plenty of trails, beaches and memories await you here.
5. Three Sisters Vineyard and Winery, Dahlongega, Georgia
Yes, there is a winery in Northeast Georgia just waiting for you and your dog. Offering wine tastings Thursday to Sunday, feel free to bring your well-behaved, leashed dog with you to Three Sisters Vineyard and Winery. They even have a a Vine Dog Weekend! Visit their website for dates and details.
6. Hofbrauhaus Restaurant, Helen, Georgia
This restaurant has covered picnic tables alongside the banks of the Chatahoochee River in the German themed city of Helen, Georgia. With unique German brews on tap and American favorites, pair your favorite brew with some authentic German food. Sit alongside the river on the outside patio with your dog and enjoy the day away.
7. Brickle and Digby of 2 Traveling Dog’s favorite animal rescue: One Love Animal Rescue, Savannah, Georgia
One Love Animal Rescue helps abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted pets in the Savannah, GA area by partnering with shelters, rescue groups and the community to facilitate adoption of these animals into permanent and loving homes. This is a close-knit group of volunteers who seamlessly work together to help the animals in this community.
