Police are searching for the person responsible for shooting a dog and tying her to railroad tracks in Tampa, Florida.
Cabela, a young Pit Bull mix, was found shot and bleeding on Wednesday afternoon after authorities responded to reports of gunshots fired in the Sulphur Springs area, WTSP reports.
Officers rushed the pup, who was shot twice, to Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Center for treatment. It was initially reported that one leg would have to be amputated, but doctors ultimately were able to save it.
“Cabela came through surgery with flying colors and four legs,” the clinic wrote on its Facebook page early Friday morning.
“The surgeon decided to pin it instead of amputation. It will be 6 to 8 weeks before we know whether she will regain full use and motion.”
“It just turns your stomach,” Tampa Police Officer Greg Coller told WTSP. “I really don’t know what else to say.”
Thankfully Cabela is in great spirits since her rescue. “Dogs rebound quick,” said Dr. Jamie Davidson, who helped saved the pit bull’s life, told CNN.
“Really, after everything that this dog has gone through … she’s the sweetest,” she added. “I mean she’s not angry with people. She’s not growling. She’s been really really good.”
Once Cabela’s doing better, she will be placed for adoption with a “good family,” Davidson said.
The Humane Society has offered a $2,500 reward for information on the case, while Crime Stoppers has put up an additional $3,000.
