BarkBox Theme Reveal: Your Dog’s Gonna Love The Hidden Surprises In These Toys

This March, BarkBox celebrates the striking wilderness of the Australian Outback, and the one-of-a-kind creatures that call it home. The recent devastation has struck a chord across the globe, and we find ourselves in a position to make a difference for our wild friends in need.

BARK will donate $25,000 to the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s (IFAW) Koala Dog Detection Program to support dogs like Bear in their efforts to locate injured, ill, or displaced koalas, and to help conserve their ecosystems. You can learn more about IFAW and donate here.

We will also donate $1 for every new BarkBox subscription in March.

Where It All Begins

Every toy starts its life inside a designer’s sketchbook (our designers live and breathe dogs—they’re experts). Once we have a final design, it’s turned into 3D renders, prints, and, eventually, a ready-to-love toy! Here’s a peek inside:

BOX BREAKDOWN! ⬇️

Kouddly Koala

Why We Love It:

  • Hidden toy inside
  • Disc squeaker
  • Velcro loop to attach to your dog’s collar (koala hug!)
  • Extra Toy (see FAQs at bottom for details)
  • KOALA FACT! Koalas’ fingerprints are SO similar to our own, it’s almost impossible to tell them apart.

Topanga Kanga

Have a go with this true blue roo—she’s ridgey-didge for playtime.

Why We Love It:

  • Treat pocket (ahem, pouch)
  • Disc squeaker
  • Crinkle
  • KANGAROO FACT! There are more kangaroos than humans in Australia!

Kiki Kookaburra

Oi! Now that’s a bonzer bird beak!

Why We Love It:

  • Treat pocket in mouth
  • Disc squeaker
  • Crinkle
  • KOOKABURRA FACT: For years, the Kookaburra’s “laugh” has been used as a jungle sound effect in movies to mimic groups of monkeys!

Nothing like a choccy bikkie for this sweet tooth!

Why We Love It:

  • Hidden toy inside
  • TWO disc squeakers
  • Crinkle
  • SUGAR GLIDER FACT! Their scientific name, Petaurus breviceps, best translates to “short-headed springboard.”

Yobbo Wombat

It’s a g’day down undah when you don’t step in any cube poop.

Why We Love It:

  • Hidden toy inside
  • Crinkle
  • Ball squeaker
  • WOMBAT FACT! Wombats’ poop is cubical! Scientists believe they use it to send information to other wombats, and the cube shape prevents it from rolling away.

Drongo Platypus

Gnarly beaver-duck, mate.

Why We Love It:

  • TWO hidden toys inside
  • TWO ball squeakers
  • Crinkle
  • PLATYPUS FACT! Even without sight, smell, or hearing, their bill (which contains thousands of cells) allows them to use “electrolocation” to hunt.

Edna Echidna

A spiny bloke with a love for that amber fluid. Cheers, mate.

Why We Love It:

  • Hidden toy inside
  • Tube squeaker
  • Crinkle
  • ECHIDNA FACT! They have tiny mouths and no teeth, but use their sticky six-inch tongue to catch insects. Their scientific name, Tachyglossus, means “fast tongue.”

Anyone up for bangers and mash? No? Just water buffalo? Good on ya.

Why We Love It:

  • Crinkle
  • CROCODILE FACT! Croc jaws can bite with 5,000 pounds of pressure—that’s ten times more powerful than a great white shark!

  • Disc squeaker
  • Crinkle
  • Double Deluxe toy (see FAQs at bottom for details)

Why We Love Them:

  • No corn, wheat, or soy—that’s ace!
  • Inspired by the outback, sourced and made in the USA

How Does It Work?
