We asked our ruvly readers to share a time when they wished they could snuggle away the pain their pup was suffering through, and you guys made us cry and smile with inspirational stories of dogs who were determined to get past their boo-boos.
"Rory had to wear a cast for two months after tearing a ligament. I started putting a sock on her when she went out instead of the smelly plastic bag the vet gave me. She loved her sock so much she would raise her little cast up to have it put on, and even after she had healed she would bring it to me and sit down to ask for me to put it on her leg. I think she was rather sad when it wouldn't stay on anymore."
"My Grumpasaurus Rex Raena had an acute episode of pancreatitis almost a year ago. She had to spend a few days at the vet's office (which she abhors) to get fluids and meds. Fortunately Courtney, one of the vet techs at the practice, is a fellow Shiba owner and lover. This is a pic of my very sick grump outside in the sun with Courtney on her lunch break."
"Oreo had surgery to correct a bone in his leg that had become curved. He was in a cast for over a month, but he didn't let it stop him. He walked around on the cast so much that I had to keep extra bandages around just for the bottom so he could keep on playing and being the happiest dog in the world."
"Treats are not enough to make up for the indignation of having to wear this bootie. Cut his foot on ice last week and can't understand why his foot has to be protected."
"This boy is our foster fail. He got attacked by another dog at the shelter. They were going to euthanize him because of his injuries. Love him."
"My little buddy Hank broke his patella last year when he fell off of the back of the couch. Poor guy had 3 different splints before it was done. He's doing great now though!"
"Emma aquired an injury during transport from the south to our local animal shelter. A friend of mine was fostering Emma and nursing her little leg back to health. When we finally brought our sweet girl home, we found out she needed surgery for her leg. Almost a year after surgery, she now just limps a little but is full of energy, spunk and loves to run since she wasn't ever able to as a pup. Watching her use her leg and run is an amazing feeling."
"Her nail got torn off when she jumped from the tailgate of the truck to the grass and landed wrong. She had to wear a cone for a day but she's happy and fine now."
"My beautiful Bristol had a hematoma on her ear and had surgery. This was about four years ago."
"Our Myrna Loy had surgery for a 'luxating patella'." Myrna Loy's human stayed up all night after the surgery to keep her pup company.
"Dexter was only 10 weeks old when his big sister rolled on his leg during a wrestling match and fractured his leg. He became my little buddy and came everywhere with me! After only 21 days he was completely healed but almost 2 years later he still is my little shadow."
"Hiko broke his front leg when he was just one year old. But oh my...look at that adorable smile. Even in hardship he still stands up and spreads a lot of positive energy. The vet ended up amputating his leg, but he's doing really great now, getting lots of love and cuddles and kisses."
"This particular picture was after he had a benign mass and two front teeth taken out at the same time a couple summers ago. He's a pretty active guy (check out @kentuckycatdog on instagram!) so the few weeks of restricted activity to keep the stitches in place were tough for him and though he loved all the wet food after oral surgery, the toy and bone restriction was pretty bummer.
"Our little Harley had a blood vessel nicked. All vitals went down almost immediately and she had to get a blood transfusion. She is a TROOPER!"
"I came home late one night last year to find my sweet Captain had a hole in his side that I could fit my pinky in. A few sutures, a drain tube and some bacon flavored pain meds later, he was back to normal and got his stitches out just in time for our road trip!"
"Liberty Belle had a luxating patella from thinking she's a cricket. She has had surgery on both back patellas."
This poor pup tried to jump up onto her human's recliner and failed.
"This is the face that sums up how Vera felt about having to wear a cone."
