Meet Shiba Sommelier, the world’s first and foremost dog expert on wine!
Ok, so maybe Shiba Sommelier doesn’t actually taste the wine, but he does supervise his hoomans as they study to be Masters of Wine.
Shiba Sommelier has formulated his own wine rating (and price) guide! Let’s delve deeper into his system.
ShibaSomm Price Guide:
$ : $15 and under
$$ : $16 – $30
$$$ : $31 – $50
$$$$ : $51 – $100
$$$$$ : $100+
Shiba Sommelier also rates the wines on a scale of 1 to 5 bones. You can see all of the ratings on his website or visit his Facebook page. So, with all that in mind, let’s look at some of Shiba Sommelier’s wine ratings!
2000 Château Cheval Blanc Le Petit Cheval
I finished my mint julep so I’m cheering on the horsies with some quality juice! Wow. Cassis. Black plum. Mushroom. Tobacco. Bourbon vanilla. Orange blossom. Fresh ground pepper. Cocoa nibs. Jerky and charcuterie. Makes me want to get grillin’! DELICIOUS.
Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Le Berceau Blanquette de Limoux
Guys – blanquette de limoux is apparently the first sparkling white wine produced in France, even before Champagne (this is my surprised face)! This is some good stuff! Baked apple. Lemon. White flowers. Rind. Yeast. Lemon. Pear skin on the palate. It’s pretty delicious!
2004 Sassetti Livio Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Planning my Tuscan feast! Red cherries, plums, blackberries. Dried red flowers and violets. Chanterelles, balsamic, potting soil. Clove and anise. A mix of delicious flavors. A bit more of a modern style, but can see this guy aging for quite some time while drinking well now.
Castellroig Cava Brut Rosat
squishabledotcom Shiba and I are having a paw-ty to celebrate new followers with some Cava! Yay! Beautiful, deep rosé color. Rosewater. Raspberry. Pink grapefruit. Hint of yeast. Dried cherries and rosewater on the palate. Salud amigos!
2001 San Fabiano Calcinaia Cellole Chianti Classico DOCG
I’ve got an eye on my truffles from Italy! On the nose – syrupy blackberries, black and red cherries, truffles, pancetta, bay leaf. More youthful on the palate. Sour red cherry. Lavender. Fennel. A slightly bitter finish. A little past its prime.
