We’ve all thought about it: setting a world record. Whether for the amount of marshmallows you can fit in your mouth or how long you can keep your eyes open without blinking, at some point you’ve considered setting a record. Most of us don’t actually do it, though. Unlike these pups.
These 11 pups actually broke records no other dog had previously been able to break!
1. Highest Jump
In 2006, a Holly Grey named Cinderella May (rhyme intentional?) lept an astonishing 5’ 8” into the air. That’s high enough to jump over a refrigerator!
Do your ears hang low? Not like this pooch. Harbor, a black-and-tan Coonhound living in Colorado has ears so big he used to trip over them as a pup! With one coming in at 12.25” and the other at 13.75”, his ears put together are the size of a large bicycle wheel!
This relatively new record was set by a 3 year old French Sheepdog named Norman in 2012 for “Fastest 30 meters on a scooter by a dog.” The pace? A a blazing 3.4 miles per hour. Apparently Norman can also ride a skateboard and bicycle as well. Personally, I wanna see Segway added to the repertoire.
Whippets are relatives of the greyhound – slender, lithe, and graceful. That only makes this next record all the more impressive. Wendy has a condition that literally doubles her muscle – resulting in a seriously intimidating appearance. If the terminator had a dog this surely would be it. Despite her looks, though, Wendy is reportedly as docile and friendly as any other dog. What a relief!
Miracle Milly, a (what else) Chihuahua owned by Vanesa Semler of Dorado, Puerto Rico. Milly rises to a lilliputian 3.8 inches tall. To put that into perspective, that’s about the length of a credit card. Three of her standing on top of each other would still reach just shy of the height of a barbie doll and you’d need a dozen of her to reach the height of Zeus, the world’s tallest dog ever!
Billionaire businesswoman Leona Helmsley left an astonishing 12 million dollars to her beloved White Maltese, Trouble, when she passed away in 2007. That’s enough to buy 28,000 Kobe strip steaks (with tip and change to spare) at the Old Holmstead Steakhouse in New York City. A dog’s life indeed!
Okay okay, so this isn’t exactly an official record, but how do you resist? Boo, a pomeranian owned by a San Francisco based Facebook executive, is purported to be the cutest dog ever to grace the surface of the earth. Of course, that’s a bit of a dubious claim, but come on, just look at him! Now tell us what you think. Got a cuter pup in mind? Post below in the comments.
By the looks of things, this pup must be quite familiar with the taste of… the ground. The male Pekenese, Puggy has a tongue so long – 4.5″ – that it perpetually dangles out of his mouth. This is one area where canines have us humans licked. The longest tongue on a person only reaches a mere 3.86″.
What is it that makes popping things so irresistible? (I’m looking at you, anyone who’s encountered bubble wrap ever.) Turns out that fixation may not be limited to our species. Anastasia, a Jack Russell Terrier who is also an accomplished actor and model, holds the current record for fastest canine balloon popper. Her record? 100 balloons in just under 45 seconds. She’s got me beat…
10. Most Expensive
So China’s gone a bit dog crazy in recent years. After decades of little to no dog ownership, the country is finding that the pets make not only great companions, but symbols of wealth and status as well. Case in point – Hong Dong (“Big Splash” in English). The Red Tibetan Mastiff was recently sold to a coal baron in Hebei province just outside of Beijing for an astonishing $1.5 Million. Woah.
This particular pooch may also hold the record for “Most Esoteric World Records.” The Australian Shepard, Sweet Pea can pull off the feat backwards, blindfolded, up and down stairs. The dog also apparently has the record for “Fastest 100 Meters With a Can Balanced On a Dog’s Head.” Yup. That’s a thing.
