Tilly the Yellow Lab is trained to sniff out bodies, cancer, money, and bed bugs, but you would never guess that she can track down SD cards and flash drives with that schnoz, too. This girl is the next solution to solving cyber crimes, of all things, proving yet again that dogs are marvelous creatures.
So, how exactly do you train a dog to track down hidden cards and flash drives? Owner of Bed Bug Dog Cleveland, Gary Broger, says:
It’s just imprinting them on the contents and what the card is made of, because everything has its own scent.” As long as they can identify it and have an appropriate command name to link it to, almost anything is possible.
Could be in a mattress, could be behind a light switch… as long as she’s imprinted on that and she’s got a name—I mean there’s a hundred things. These dogs are incredible.
If Tilly can smell a dollar bill in a desk drawer, or a cellphone deep within a prison, surely she can do the same with these devices. Maybe she can help me find my car keys next time.
