Why You Shouldn’t Care That My Dog Sleeps In My Bed

According to a recent survey, nearly half of dog owners sleep with their pup in bed.

I was shocked… “nearly half?” That’s it!?

What in Dog’s name are you people doing not sleeping with your pup!? Do you know how cozy dogs are?

I don’t want to judge – maybe some of these blanket-hogging humans have dogs that aren’t really into snuggling, or maybe they’re made of spikes, I don’t know. I’m not a scientist. I am however, a sentient being, and let me tell you something, sleeping with a dog rules.

Exhibit A:

They are furry.

Exhibit B:

They are snuggly.

Exhibit C:

They are the sweetest.

Exhibit D:

There’s something almost instinctual about it.

Exhibit E:

They don’t get morning breath and we should learn how to not do that.

And to people who think we are substituting a mate with an animal… Ew, dude. We’re not trying to sleep with our pets; we’re trying to snuggle with them. Go back to sniffing shoes at the bowling alley, or putting boogers in library books, or whatever it is you non-animal lovers do.

Hard to hear the haters through all this fluff!

I say the more the merrier! Recently, I was dog sitting for two of my BarkBox coworkers. I was manning two giant dogs at 65lbs and 75lbs, and a medium sized pup around 20lbs, for a week.

Was it the best week ever? Yes.

Did all three dogs jump into my bed at night then melt into precious-puppy-slumber all over me? YAS.

Did the guy I’ve been dating come over and think this was totally insane? Not important.

I didn’t ask him, because as Marilyn Monroe once said, “If you can’t handle my bed when there’s three dogs, you sure as hell don’t deserve my bed when there’s none.”

I may be paraphrasing.

My dog, Ziggy is what I call a “traveler.” He moves from my bed to his dog-bed sporadically throughout the night.
It’s the best, and frankly, everybody who has experienced it for themselves (even the dog-in-bed naysayers) now agree that once you go pup, you’ll never give it up.

Ziggy and former naysayer.

I’m not as curious about how many dog owners sleep in bed with their dog, but rather, for those who do (aka my people) what’s your dog snugging style??

Do you have a “traveler” like me? Is it more of a spooning situation? Is your pup at the foot of your bed? Is he/she up by your pillow? Are you the pillow? Over the covers? Under a makeshift fort?! Eeee! Whatever it is, we are the lucky “nearly half” ones.
