If you’re anything like me, podcasts play an important role in your life. They’re perfect entertainment for your workouts, they make your commute much more enjoyable, and they’re the perfect substitute for a book when you’re too tired to read. Now what if I told you that you could now combine your love of podcasts with your other love: dogs.
A new podcast series titled “DogSmarts” was launched this past June and features a roster of episodes that explore the mental lives and cognitive abilities of dogs.
On each episode, you can expect to hear a mixture of stories and interviews with anyone from psychologists and anthropologists to scientists and veterinarians on a wide variety of dog-related topics.
We’re not kidding about the topics being vast; so far listeners have had the chance to learn more about topics from canine memory and word learning to nutrition and love.
What’s really exciting is that the host of the podcast is Dr. Brian Hare, the founder of Dognition who just also happens to be a professor of cognitive neuroscience at Duke University.
We’re fortunate to live in a time where the scientific community has put significant resources into understanding the rich mental lives of dogs, and this series is the perfect platform to share some of those amazing findings.
For those who are worried that the podcast will be too “scientific” to follow, don’t be. Both Hare and his guests do an amazing job explaining even the most complex topics in terms that the average dog owner can understand and relate to.
If you’re interested in learning more the inner workings of your pup, head on over to the Panoply website or look for DogSmarts on iTunes or Google Play. Trust us when we say this will be the most interesting scientific podcast you’ll probably ever listen to. Because really, is there anything cooler than dog science?!
