In a positively beautiful ceremony in Jharkhand, India, a young lady wed a stray dog, named Sheru, after a local guru convinced her parents it was necessary to ward off a potential curse.
The girl, named Mangli, was a tad reluctant about marrying the pup, but believes it will be worth it in the long run.
“I am marrying a dog because the village elders believe that my evil spell will be passed on,” she said. “After that is done, the man I will marry will have a long life.”
Intended solely to improve the fortune of Mangli and her family, the ceremony was not legally binding and Mangli’s only responsibilities to the dog are to take care of it as one would a beloved pet.
After caring for the dog for a few months, the bad luck should pass and Mangli will be ready to find the man of her dreams.
“It is the dream of every girl to marry a prince charming,” Mangli said. “So I am also waiting for my prince.”
And Sheru? He’ll join Mangli and her future husband as the family dog. So that makes this a rescue story in disguise! Where Sheru once was a stray, he know has a furever home.
