If it’s been awhile since you’ve brushed your dog’s teeth, then you’re probably no different than the average pup parent.* But your dog’s halitosis probably has you longing for the days of your dog’s youth, when that sweet, sweet puppy breath used to be the only aroma that escaped their gums.
But the reason puppy breath smells so appealing to the human nose has little to do with our sense of smell, and more to do with a puppy’s diet.
Since a puppy survives off a mother’s milk and nothing more, the only smell that would emanate from their tiny tummies is the sugary smell of lactose from mama dog’s milk.
Chances are, a mature dog’s funky breath has more to do with the mix of solid foods in their stomach (and maybe, just maybe, a lack of brushing).
*Seriously you guys, brushing is a pain but it’s super important.
