This story begins with one of the original BarkBox dogs, Hugo the Great Dane.
Hugo’s dad, Matt, is one of the BarkBox founders and Matt ruvs Hugo a lot. A LOT.
Hugo is a city pup and lives with Matt and his wife in Brooklyn, NY.
Occasionally Hugo has BarkBox toy-testing duties, but for the most part he stays at home while Matt goes to work at BarkBox.
And that’s where this guy comes in. Meet John, the guy with THE COOLEST DOG JOB IN THE WORLD.
John runs a business called Doggie Day Trips. Four days out of every week, John takes a group of dogs upstate to Harriman State Park to go on hikes.
You read right. John’s job is HIKING with DOGS. DOGS! NATURE! Fresh air! #jealous
After years working at his father’s veterinary practice in northern New Jersey and eventually in vet practices in New York City, John founded Doggie Day Trips so that he could offer city pups the opportunity to explore nature that they might not otherwise have.
John believes that every dog should have the chance to run through the woods, smell all the dirt, swim in the lake, and have a ton of fun getting exercised– while staying safe. (John is a vet tech, after all.)
One of John’s newest four-legged hike buddies is BarkBox Hugo.
Hugo ruvs his day trips.
He runs…
…he chases…
…he gets chased…
…he pounces…
…he thinks about swimming…
…he watches leaves fall…
…and he really stretches those gigantic Great Dane legs of his.
Good times are had by all on John’s doggie day trips.
In the five years that John’s gone hiking with New York City pups, he continues to find joy in seeing dogs socialize and explore nature.
And John doesn’t fight one bit when you tell him he’s got the greatest job in the world. ; )
