Is It Too Hot To Walk Your Dog? Here’s An Easy Way To Find Out

The dog days of summer are upon us! While I love heading to the beach, drinking lemonade, and walking adorable pooches, the heat can be dangerous. Dogs are susceptible to heat just like us humans. Hot pavement can cause some serious damage to pups.

The wonderful folks at Moon Valley Canine Training shared a hot weather tip: use the five second rule. Put the back of your hand on the pavement and if you can’t keep it on there for five seconds, don’t walk your dog! Use alternative routes (shaded, grassy areas) and always keep your pup hydrated.

The five-second rule: Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you cannot hold it for five seconds, it's too hot to walk your dog.
