A series of text messages went viral earlier today that feature a woman named Lexa telling her husband, Clarke, about the new pet she’s bringing home to the family.
A Facebook post featuring the screenshots garnered almost 850,000 likes. The Sun, Mirror, and The Daily Star are among some of the many sites that published the story. Most online publications have since taken the “viral” story down, however, after the texts were revealed to be nothing more than fan-fiction.
The texts were written by a fan of the post-apocalyptic drama, The 100 and were originally posted on Clarke Griffin Texts, a Tumblr page dedicated to an alternate universe, in which two female characters on the show, Lexa and Clarke, are married with children in a non-post-apocalyptic, puppy-filled world.
Fans of the show bestowed the hashtags #ClarkeTheHusband and #FishTheDog on the incident, and in classic Internet fashion, are celebrating the blunder with trolling tomfoolery:
