The Detroit Police and Fire Departments know exactly who to call when they stumble across dogs in need. Detroit Dog Rescue opened the city’s first No-Kill shelter in 2014. Their goal is to make sure that no Detroit dog suffers because of circumstances they cannot control, like abandonment, neglect or abuse.
Last week, Detroit Police raided a suspected Marijuana grow house and were shocked to find three dogs living in deplorable conditions. They contacted DDR and animal control who safely relocated the frightened dogs to the shelter for evaluation, treatment and safe keeping.
According to Shelter Director Kristina Rinaldi, the dogs are suffering from mange and various other ailments, and are currently receiving veterinary treatment. DDR volunteers have named the pups Tasha, Godiva and Elmo.
The dogs will remain under legal hold with DDR while the police gather evidence in the criminal case, and then be put up for adoption.
On behalf or Detroit Dog Rescue, Rinaldi expressed her heartfelt appreciation to law enforcement and animal control for taking swift action to ensure the safety of these three dogs and others like them throughout the city.
Together these organizations are cracking down on crimes against animals and making Detroit a safer place to live for all dogs.
