Woman Abandons Three Dogs On The Street, Speeds Off As They Chase Her

The comments below were posted under a story about three dogs who were abandoned by their owner. Someone called police after witnessing a woman park her car, sit in it for 10-15 minutes, and speed away after letting the dogs out.

When police collected the dogs, they found no tags on their collars or microchips, but all three appeared well fed and healthy. They had been loved by someone.

Police didn’t have to search long before the woman who left these dogs turned herself in and confessed.

I don’t know her motives for leaving her dogs like that, and when I first read the headline I shook my head. There are so many options for someone when they can’t take care of their dogs. Why would someone leave them out there like that?

Here at BarkPost we read countless news stories about dogs abandoned by owners who can no longer keep them. Sometimes we come across a story of a person who really tried all they could to keep their animal but ultimately ended up having to give them to a shelter, walking away with tears in their eyes. And sometimes we find a story about someone who dumps them on the side of the road and drives away.

Every time one of those stories pops up, the comments section gets flooded by people judging the owner for leaving their dog. It’s easy to condemn a person for making a choice you believe you would never make. I don’t know what that lady did for those 15 minutes before opening the car doors knowing her dogs would run out happily, maybe thinking they were going for an adventure. Maybe she cried. Maybe she made last-minute frantic calls trying to find another option for her dogs.

These dogs were lucky to be rescued by the police before running into traffic, but many are not as fortunate. If you ever find yourself in a situation that would make it impossible for you to keep your dog, there are so many resources available, so many people who will reach out and help. When we post a story about a dog who needs a home, our lovely readers jump in to give a hand where they can, offering to foster or donate food and toys.

The rescue organization network is so big and full of people who work tirelessly to help prevent stories like this one. Educate yourself and others on responsible pet ownership. Sh*t happens sometimes, but even if it does, our animals deserve more than to be left to fend for themselves on the street.
