The Story Of America’s Most Loyal Dog Will Remind You Just How Much Your Pup Loves You

We all know the story of Hachi, the Japanese Akita whose devotion to his human has been honored in a film. But, there’s another dog, one here in America, who waited five and a half years by a set of train tracks in Fort Benton, Montana for his human to return.

Although that dog, named Shep, does have his own statue, he is often forgotten by the world at large. When the crew of NBC’s Dateline stumbled upon Shep’s story while filming footage for their January 9, 2016 report, they knew they had to make sure that everyone remembers the love and loyalty this dog felt for his human.

They enlisted the help of Randy Morger, the Executive Director of Montana’s River And Plains’ Society, to tell this beautiful tale. Watch the video below to learn about Shep, the Forever Faithful.

Shep’s story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. It also reminds us of one very important thing – that dogs love their humans unconditionally and forever.
