There have been many dog food recalls this year, but this is perhaps one of the most alarming.
The FDA issued a recall for Dingo Chip Twists “Chicken in the Middle” dog chews for possible contamination from Amantadine, which is an antiviral drug.
Amantadine can be prescribed to pets and, although it’s main purpose is to fight off the flu, it is often used as a pain reliever for dogs and cats in cases of chronic pain.
The recall affects:
– 6-pack, 3.9 ounce bags with UPC code 615650300600, Best by Date 5/16/2017
– 16-pack, 9.59 ounce bags with UPC code 615650990429, Best by Dates 12/27/2015 and 5/16/2017.
The products were sold in California, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The FDA reports that adverse health effects from this possible contamination are highly unlikely. Still, contamination of this kind is incredibly worrisome.
