Introducing BarkGive: The Fee-Free Crowdfunding Service For Dog Lovers

Bark & Co. got its start in December 2011. One of its three founders, Matt Meeker, had become frustrated that he couldn’t find high quality toys, treats and products tailored towards different types of dogs. Being the proud pawrent of a 150-pound Great Dane, this was a real issue! Along with Carly Strife and Henrik Werdelin, Meeker created BarkBox, a monthly subscription service that selects goodies especially for each individual dog based on info provided by the owner.

The business has continued to grow over the past four years. BarkPost rounds up the freshest doggy news and videos we can get our paws on, BarkLive directs you to the best dog-friendly events around the globe, and BarkShop is your one stop for the finest in doggy themed pawducts, home goods and fashion. We even have our own doggy dating app, BarkBuddy!

This month, Bark & Co. is proud and overjoyed to introduce its latest venture, BarkGive. An online fundraising platform in the spirit of GoFundMe and YouCaring, BarkGive is dedicated exclusively to helping dogs in need and dog-related charities.

Bark & Co. founder Henrik Werdelin had this to say:

We are excited to launch BarkGive, not just because it’s another way we can help dogs in need, but because we believe that mixing our passions for technology and dogs will allow us to build services that make dogs’ lives better. Following the success of BarkBuddy (our Tinder for dogs), we think BarkGive will be another great tool for people to help dogs.

When you donate through BarkGive, you can feel confident that your money is going toward a legitimate charity. Each cause is thoroughly vetted by our staff before being featured. Unlike some other crowdfunding sites, BarkGive does not keep a percentage of the donations pledged. Aside from a small processing fee, 100% of the money you donate goes directly to the cause.

During the intro phase of the launch, BarkGive will be showcasing two new campaigns per week and offering a free BarkBox to anyone donating $50 or more. Each campaign has a desired goal the organization would like to reach, but no matter what amount is raised, every penny goes to the dogs.

The current campaigns featured on BarkGive include:

A Fair Shake for NYC Youth – A 10-week program that helps inner city youth build self-esteem through working with therapy dogs.

Operation Foster Bound – The rescue group Foster Dogs NYC helps find temporary homes for dogs in the shelter system and trains potential foster parents on how to best help dogs in need.

Girl On A Mission – Angela Adan is launching a personal campaign to raise $4,000 in order to offer her training services free of charge to shelters, rescues and struggling dog owners around the country.

King the Pit Bull Survivor Needs an MRI – King was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Florida last year. He is mostly paralyzed in his hind end and was not expected to live long, but this brave boy just keeps on fighting! His rescuers hope to raise $5,000 for an MRI to assess his spinal condition and improve his life.
