Bumble Bee Foods has voluntarily recalled over 30,000 cans of its Chunk Light Tuna for possible “life-threatening illness” as a result of under-processing and contamination.

While tuna is traditionally a cat-lover’s treat of choice, many dog owners love its added protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids. If your pup enjoys a bite every now and then, make sure you check your cans.

The recall applies to 3 different UPC codes with corresponding “best by” dates as seen below:

According to the company, the “deviations were part of the commercial sterilization process and could result in contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens.” They add that the mistakes occurred in a facility which is not owned or operated by Bumble Bee.

No cases of illness have been reported to date, and Bumble Bee advises that affected cans be thrown away. For more information or details on reimbursement, please call the company at (888) 820-1947 between 9 A.M. and 6 P.M. EST, on any day of the week.
