Cop Finds “Aggressive” Pit Bull – What He Did Next Will Restore Your Faith In Hoomanity

The Arlington Police Department received multiple reports about an “aggressive” pit bull following citizens around. Sergeant Gary Carter responded to the reports and checked out the North Arlington neighborhood, and it didn’t take him long to find the pit in question. Instead of repeating the recent mistakes of some police officers and blindly taking aggressive action towards the pit, Sergeant Carter decided to try interacting with the pooch. It was immediately apparent that the pittie wasn’t aggressive at all, and was in fact super friendly! Though it was also clear that the pup was lost and thirsty, so Sergeant Carter decided to help.

Sergeant Carter managed to coax the pittie into his patrol car with an energy bar and brought him to the local animal shelter, but he didn’t stop there. He posted a picture of the pup on the Arlington Police Department’s Facebook page hoping to find the pup’s owner – and it worked! Fortunately the pit (whose name turned out to be Jeffrey) had a microchip and thanks to the Facebook post (which went viral with over 70,000 shares) was reunited with his owner. Check out Sergeant Carter and Jeffrey’s story below:

Sergeant Carter has become an animal hero in Arlington, and rightfully so. “Maybe people can realize, first of all, that not all big dogs are dangerous. And second of all, that not all police officers are out to shoot big dogs, because we’re not.” Sergeant Carter told reporters. We’re thrilled to report that the Arlington Police Department have begun training officers to recognize and handle aggressive dogs so no dog is needlessly harmed.

We salute you, Sergeant Carter and the Arlington Police Department! We hope police departments all over the country follow your example.

PUPDATE: According to the Dallas News, the dog got out again and this time the owner decided he did not want Jeffrey back. So Sergeant Carter adopted Jeffrey, and gave him a new name: Chance.
