It was only a week ago that a woman abandoned this sweet pup, now named Orphan Annie, at a shelter in Pennsylvania. No one ever wants to see someone abandon a dog, but that seemingly cruel action saved Annie’s life.

The emaciated dog weighed only six pounds. She was covered in open wounds and fleas. Annie also has anemia and there are some other abnormalities in her blood work. She will undergo an ultrasound to check on the health of her organs.

Despite Annie’s horrifying appearance when she arrived at the shelter, a little bit of love and care from her medical foster family has already transformed her.

Sarah Donnelly, the medical director at Peaceable Kingdom Medical Shelter told a local news channel:

It is shocking how happy she is after what she has obviously gone through. She certainly could not have gone much longer.

Thankfully, everyone expects Annie to make a full recovery, but it will be a long time before she is available for adoption.

Police are currently looking for the woman who dropped Annie off at the shelter. She was caught via the shelter’s surveillance camera. If she is the pup’s owner, she’s likely to be charged with animal cruelty. Authorities ask anyone with information to call Anyone with information to call 610-709-6454.
