Matoshi, a 9-year-old Shiba Inu, was left at shelter because his owners were moving. Luckily, Nathalie Abutaha and her team from DC Shiba Inu Rescue stepped up to help this pup. They knew his previous owners had treated him for severe allergies, but nothing prepared them for the condition he was in.
Severe dog allergies: MatoshiMatoshi was dumped in a shelter after living with a family for 9 years. They reason for surrender was “moving.” But Matoshi is also covered in sores, his eyes are pus filled and his body aches. DC SIR has a highly successful allergy program. In fact, they have 100% success rate with over two dozen severe allergy cases. DC SIR has taken on a large number of special needs dogs (3 allergy dogs, 2 heart worm cases, severe IBD, puppy mill rescues and more allergy dogs in need at shelters). Please consider making a small donation so that we can help Matoshi with his immediate needs and pull another allergy rescue who is also waiting for our help. DC Shiba Inu Rescue is a non profit 501c3. Donations are tax deductible and receipts will be sent out before the end of the year. Matoshi was clearly in agony. Sadly, his skin was not his only issue, his eyes were infected, and his nails were severely overgrown. DC Shiba Rescue knew they could help this poor boy and immediately entered him into their amazing allergy program, which has been 100% effective with over two dozen other rescues, this according to their page. Unfortunately, these recoveries are not quick. Matoshi took months to heal.
This is how severe Matoshi looked when he first cam to the rescue. You can see just how miserable this poor baby felt, and how much he needed help. One his first day with the rescue he was trembling and crying, no doubt from the extreme amount of pain he was in.
Almost four months later, he is far from the traumatized pup he was when he came into the rescue. He has also developed a new found love for fetch and his fur is almost all back. Matoshi is still not ready for adoption, but he is making great strides toward getting there and he is as happy-go-lucky as any dog could be.
The video below revisits Matoshi’s first bath and then switches to the pup now. The difference is startling and incredibly heartwarming.
Matoshi’s TransformationMatoshi has been in rescue since November 30, 2015. He isn’t ready for adoption just yet, but we expect to announce his availability in April when we get him cleared by our vet. Matoshi came to DC SIR in pain from years of steroids to mask his underlying issues. Today, Matoshi not only looks great but he feels great too! Matoshi used to sleep all day and he was despondent. Now he is alert, active and vibrant! He is also pretty awesome at fetch!Follow Matoshi’s journey with DC SIR here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.945948112159248.1073742078.346998482054217&type=3
