Not long ago, Dina Wuest and her loyal pup Bonnie went hiking at Tararua Ranges in New Zealand, where they were having a great time until one step changed their trip.
Dina fell from a cliff breaking her leg and wound up helpless with no way to climb back up or to call for help – Bonnie was carrying a pack with Dina’s belongings, including her phone. But, the pup was still at the top of the cliff. Being a super loyal best friend, Bonnie climbed down the dangerous cliff to make sure her human was okay – she didn’t know it, but she was carrying Dina’s cell phone – which could save both their lives.
Wuest told The Dodo:
I fell and was facing the cliff so I couldn’t see her, but I heard her making her way down the side of the cliff where it was not so steep. Within about a minute she was by my side.
Thanks to Bonnie’s quick response, Dina could get to her phone and call for help while Bonnie stayed right by her side. The pair waited an hour for rescuers to reach them. First responders airlifted them to safety and Dina is well on her way to recovery.
Bonnie didn’t realize she was helping her human make a very important phone call, but if it hadn’t been for this pup no one knows how this situation might have turned out. We’re so glad Bonnie was there to help her human call for help!
