We’ve all heard the term “fighting like cats and dogs.” And some classify the world into two groups: the cat lovers and the dog lovers. But what if you’re just an animal lover? Well, as the bumper stickers say, “Coexist.” When introducing a dog and cat for the first time, take it slow. You can even bring in a dog trainer to help. All dogs are different, but in general, these are the dog breeds most likely to get along with cats.

1. Labrador Retriever

Labs tend to be tolerant of most people and animals… even cats. They’re eager to please, and full of ruv.

2. Pomeranian

About the same size as a cat, a Pom might mistake a kitty for one of its own. Well, probably not. But these affectionate pups are still pretty chill with cats.

3. Golden retriever

The ultimate family dog accepts all family members, even furry felines.

4. Bichon Frise

Known for their happy-go-lucky nature, Bichon Frises typically won’t be bothered by cats.

5. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

These dogs are the chillest of the chill. After a cat pounce, they’ll probably just roll over and go back to sleep.

6. Pug

A pug won’t mind kicking back with the cats, as long as its hooman still gives it the attention it deserves.

7. Basset hound

Basset hounds tend to be lazy relaxed, so they will most likely be apathetic to feline siblings.

8. Boxer

As long as the cat doesn’t mind playing, a boxer should be a fine companion.

9. Shetland Sheepdog

Shelties require a lot of grooming, but they’re intelligent and sweet-tempered — the perfect cat herder.
