In a bittersweet turn of events, Spanish nurse and Ebola survivor Teresa Romero has adopted a new pup!

If you recall, during the Ebola scare in late 2014, Romero’s dog Excalibur was put down by authorities by what they felt was a preventative measure (despite no evidence the dog was carrying the disease).

The pup, who’s name is Alma (which means “soul” in Spanish) was adopted by Romero and her husband, Javier Limon earlier this weekend from the Cipa Rescue Center. Joined by the mayor of of Alcorcon, according to The Independent, the two wanted to, “serve as an example so…[all rescue] animals can have a family like Alma and be happy.”

On their Facebook Page, the rescue said:

“Diva, now Alma, adopted. This precious dog has found a home. Thank you Teresa and Javier for adopting her. Wishing the 3 of you lots of happiness!”

We congratulate them both on the new member of their family and although she won’t replace Excalibur, hope it will go far to healing the loss of her beloved pup.
