On Saturday, April 25, Nepal was hit by a massive earthquake that claimed countless lives and affected thousands more. Homes have crumbled, national monuments have been destroyed and people have lost everything as they continue to feel the aftershocks.
During this terrible time, Nepal needs ALL the help they can get so they can rebuild their lives. As numerous aid organizations step up their relief efforts, one in particular is talking about the beings that don’t have a voice.
Humane Society International dispatched a rescue team to help the animals affected by the earthquake. In a statement to the press, Rahul Sehgal, Director Asia at Humane Society International, said:
“We understand the human dimensions of the catastrophe, now the focus of media coverage, but we expect to learn more about animal-related needs and challenges in the hours and days ahead, and we’ll be ready to help.”
Sehgal also told the International Business Times that while animals at the Central Zoo in Kathmandu are unharmed, pets and livestock are feared dead or injured.
Many citizens affected by the quake have animals and livestock that need food, water and medical attention. On the other hand numerous other pets who’ve lost their owners are now homeless.
Here’s a dog’s eye view of the destruction caused by the devastation earthquake. The footage was recorded on a doggie cam attached to the Israeli Defense Army’s rescue dog.
Numerous other countries have flown down to Nepal with their respective rescue pups. The Polish have their sniffer dogs helping out, the U.S. dispatched six firefighter-canine rescue teams from California, and the Japanese emergency aid team includes a stray turned rescue pup.
