Lieutenant Tom Van Dorn with the Phoenix Police got a furry surprise when he saw a pack of stray Chihuahuas running in the middle of the street. Worried for their safety, he honked his horn to get them out of the road. Three of them ran off before he could get out of his car, but one of them ran under his car.
Frantic, Lt. Van Dorn hopped out to look for the pup and this is what he found:
Tom told ABC 15 News:
I’m a dog owner, I’m also a huge animal lover in general particularly when it comes to dogs.
He went on to say that, as a police officer, it’s not only his job to take care of humans, but also to protect animals in need. As you can imagine, Tom was desperate to save this little, frightened pup. Unfortunately, she was too scared to be coaxed out of hiding, even when someone offered her a hot dog!
After roughly 30 minutes, local Animal Control officers rescued her and took her to the shelter. Thankfully, she was unharmed. However, as you can see from the video below, this sweet girl is still very scared.

She was not microchipped or wearing tags. Shelter workers have named the six month old pup “Tahoe.” If her owners cannot be located, she will be available for adoption from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.
Who wouldn’t want to bring this adorable face into their home?
High paws to Lieutenant Van Dorn and everyone else who helped get this pupper to safety!
