Leelo, a deaf Boxer was taken to a high-kill shelter in North Carolina heavily pregnant. According to the Huffington Post, Leelo was extremely emaciated and had spent most of her time with her previous owners chained to the porch.

Someone at the shelter couldn’t stand to see Leelo and her pups put down and decided to do something about it. What started with a phone call set off a chain of events that saved Leelo’s life, as well as her puppies’!

The call went from local shelter,Mayberry 4 Paws to Deaf Dogs Rock, a non-profit for deaf dogs, and finally to Green Dogs Unleashed where the founder, Erika Proctor, offered to help.

She got together a huge team of people who were able to bring Leelo from North Carolina down to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she was able to find a foster home for her.

Her foster mom told the Huffington Post, “I live on a farm and have six dogs living with me, I couldn’t let her or her puppies be euthanized.”

All of Leelo’s puppies were delivered at her foster parent’s home…or so they thought. However, soon after giving birth, Leelo started to spike a fever! After a quick Google search revealed that there might be more puppies, Leelo was taken to Sara Salmon’s emergency veterinary clinic where they found out (via x-rays) that Leelo still had three more puppies in her!

While two puppies did not make it, one miraculous lil’ pup survived!
