Our favorite girl Khalessi was rushed to the hospital on Friday. Her kidneys were failing, and for some terrifying hours it wasn’t clear if she’d pull through.

The news is more immediately promising now.

Khalessi’s mom Stephanie Paquin — founder of southwest Florida-based rescue group Passion 4 Pits — tells BarkPost that Khalessi has been stabilized after having her kidneys flushed and receiving a blood transfusion at the University of Florida’s veterinary hospital.

Long-term prospects are unfortunately not as encouraging. Khalessi has been diagnosed with a condition called babesia — a blood disease that killed Ray the Vicktory dog, one of Michael Vick’s former fighting dogs, last year.

The veterinarians are treating Khalessi for this parasite. She may be in the hospital for another week.

After that, it’s not clear how much time Khalessi will have left with her family, and her fans. It could be only weeks.

Paquin said that the most optimistic outcome right now is that Khalessi has another six months to a year. She’s pledged to make every second of it beautiful.

“It will be the best time of her life,”Paquin said. “I will be happy to spend every day that she has left with her.”

Along with the above video, Khalessi’s family recently posted the following on her Facebook page:

Mike got to see Khalessi and she is feeling much better! She is being treated for a parasite in her red blood cells that is believed to be the underlying cause of the kidney issues. She will remain in Gainesville until Monday and possibly the week. She is not out of the woods yet but I can see her fighting sparkle in her eyes.
