When Terry Leatherwood’s dog Bella was stolen from his backyard, he lost his best friend and lifesaver. The San Diego man, who suffers from epilepsy and is on disability, was heartbroken to have been robbed of the pup he’d had since she was seven weeks old.

But then something beautiful happened: Kind people joined in the search for Bella, sharing pictures and flyers in hopes of finding her.

“Everyone in the whole community up here started posting pictures and it was just a really emotional time for me,” recalls Leatherwood.

Thankfully, Bella was found in a parking lot and handed over to Hairy and Merry Pet Spa & Dog Wash, where owner Christopher Morgan took care of Bella and posted found flyers.

“You could tell she was missing her family, and we just wanted to make her comfortable and try to reunite them as soon as we could,” said Morgan.

Things finally turned around for Bella when Morgan took her to Amici Pet Hospital, where one quick scan for a microchip helped staff track down Bella’s rightful owner, who had been waiting for news of his beloved dog.

“When I lost her it was like my heart stopped beating, and I am so grateful and thankful God was able to put these people in my life to make this happen…My heart started beating again. She’s my heartbeat,” said Leatherwood.

This serves as a reminder that it’s always a good idea to microchip your pup. We’re so glad Leatherwood and Bella are together again! 😀
