When my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 9 years ago, our family knew we had a challenging road ahead. To sum it up simply, Alzheimer’s is real b**ch! But even now when this once-vibrant woman can barely talk anymore, we know she can still feel love, from human AND furry family alike. How? She responds to my dog Pumpkin every time he visits, instinctively reaching out to pet him with a smile on her face. And the last full sentence she said to me (after “Are you married yet, honey?”) was “Aww, he’s cute!”
There’s no doubt about it: dogs have magical pawers to know when our fragile human souls need some nurturing. And this elevator-riding teacup poodle at a Minnesota nursing home is leading the sixth-sense pack!
