The pair were found abandoned on the side of the road in Dallas, Texas, and brought to Mercy Animal Clinic, reports ABC News.

Pitty the Pit Bull and Kitty the kitten were discovered by a member of the Dallas Dog RR rescue group. The Good Samaritan said the newborn feline immediately tried to feed from her canine comrade once they were put into a car together.

Dr. Rick Hamlin, who is currently taking care of the duo, said that Pitty had been lactating and feeding Kitty recently, but appeared to have dried up right before she and the kitten were brought into the hospital.

Kitty is lucky to be in professional care. Just 10 days old, the kitten most likely would have died in 24 hours without Pitty to feed from. Now the little meower is being bottle-fed by the staff of Mercy Animal Clinic, but Pitty still lends a paw.

Emotionally attached to her critter from another litter, the Pit Bull helps with the kitten’s feedings by licking and stimulating the little one.

When they aren’t snacking and smooching, the pair spend their time cuddled up in the same cage, whining whenever they aren’t together.

Because the unlikely friends have become so close, Hamlin will make sure the animals are adopted together.
