Police Dog Gets An Emotional Hero’s Salute On His Final Tour Of Duty

This Texas police dog did not get to live a long life, but he was loved.

On K-9 Deputy Rocky’s last walk — his final tour of duty, as it’s known — he was saluted by members of the the Collin County Honor Guard and by Collin County Sheriff Terry G. Box.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office posted this video to Facebook on Friday, along with a message describing its circumstances.

The post explains that Rocky “began experiencing physical limitations that prevented him from performing his duties” a few months ago. Dr. Wes Taylor of the Highlands-Eldorado Veterinary Hospital determined that Rocky’s condition couldn’t be treated, and that euthanasia was the kindest option.

Public Information Officer Jim Moody tells us that Rocky was just 3.5 years old, and suffered from an inoperable tumor.

His moving send-off, Moody says, was as thanks for Rocky’s service, and “the sheriff’s recognition of his love.”
