There are a lot of things we look forward to on Thanksgiving every year, but losing our dog for nearly 11 months isn’t one of them. Very unfortunately for Mark Becker and Joni Harrel, their Pug, Chips, simply disappeared from their lives after the holiday. After waiting so long for him to return, it’s understandable that some pup parents would give up hope of reuniting with their best friend.
So you see, Chips must have been feeling adventurous; perhaps he was a little ashamed of the amount of turkey he ate (secretively, of course) during the holiday. He hitchhiked all the way from San Antonio, Texas to Petal, Mississippi—a 650 mile trip, before ending the year-long soirée alone in a parking lot.
By some miracle of miracles, one caring human picked up his wrinkly butt and took him to a nearby vet, who found Chips’ microchip and gave his humans the best phone call they’ve ever received.
When asked how it feels to get their snuffly little Pug back, Harrel exclaimed:
“Wonderful! Wonderful! I just, I want to cry it’s so good. It’s so good.”
And Becker tells us perfectly what we already know—that Chips is part of the family, and they couldn’t be happier.
On behalf of Chips’ wonderful family, we want to thank the kind person who took the initiative to bring him to the vet. It made all the difference.
