Earlier this month, someone found something very unexpected in a stable in the town of Newbury in Berkshire, England – three twelve week old puppies. The tiny dogs were frail and frightened, but now they are in the care of Dogs Trust, an organization that saves thousands of dogs’ lives every year.

No one really knows the story behind the pups’ abandonment, but Nicki Barrow, the manager at the Newbury location of Dogs Trust, has a guess:

It is truly shocking to see such tiny puppies abandoned in this way, especially so close to Christmas. We think that they have been dumped because they weren’t able to be sold in time for Christmas.

The holiday puppy trade is a huge problem in many countries, including the U.S. The problem is so pervasive, that for 37 years, the slogan of Dogs Trust has been “A dog is for life, not just for Christmas.”

These tiny puppies were almost a holiday tragedy, but thanks to Dogs Trust, they’ve turned into a Christmas miracle – and no one can overlook the coincidence of the three pups being abandoned in a stable.

My Christmas loving heart is imagining that they were in a manger inside of the stable. Go with me on this, okay?

The three dogs, named Parsnip, Spud and Sprout, our receiving round the clock care from the kind humans at Dogs Trust and will be ready for adoption soon. If you are in the Berkshire area in England, you can contact Dogs Trust via their website.
