We love to share heartwarming rescue success stories, but sometimes it’s just as important to bring awareness to the tales that end in tragedy. These stories remind us of the difficult work that compassionate humans take on in the name of saving lives.
The following post was shared by the rescuer and advocate behind Mac the Pit Bull. The post is a memorial to a puppy named Jack, abandoned by his owners when he became ill with deadly Parvovirus.
Parvo is extremely contagious and causes painful intestinal symptoms. It is most often seen in young puppies who have not yet been vaccinated. It’s quite common in puppy mill dogs, who are often adopted out at too young of an age. The suffering that dogs with Parvo go through is almost unimaginable, and it’s even more devastating to know that Jack went through it alone until his heroic rescuer came along.
We will never know the pain and fear this innocent pup experienced before he his rescue, but we do know that someone purposely abandoned him and did not try to prevent the disease with a simple vaccine.

Jack didn’t survive, but what did survive was the impact his life had on his rescuer and on all dog lovers. His rescuer will love Jack forever. His story also speaks to the importance of responsible pet ownership, proper medical care and why people should avoid puppy mills.
Sadly, rescuers can’t save every dog, but they can give love to every dog they meet – something many dogs never get. Jack’s last moments were moments of love, and that is a truly beautiful thing.
