Kariba was Donald’s service dog for a decade. A few weeks ago, Donald was hit by a car and killed while in his wheelchair—he and Kariba were crossing a notoriously busy street with no sidewalks. It was a miracle Kariba survived, but now the loyal pup needs a home.
“Him being a service dog for about a decade, it would be heartbreaking to know that he would have to go to a shelter,” Sammye Darling, the founder of Texas Service Dogs, told KXAN. She took Kariba in after the accident and ensures everyone he is one awesome dog.
Sadly, this is not the first tragedy Kariba has survived; the two also escaped a house fire with no injuries at the beginning of February.
“It’s been a rough couple of months for former service dog, Kariba,” reads his adoption description.
He is potty trained, walks well on the leash, and loves car rides! He is great with other dogs and people but he does not like cats. He’s a healthy senior but does have fragile hips and back legs as [well] so daily pain medication is recommended.
Twelve-year-old Kariba the miracle dog needs a forever home to take him in and help him establish a new life without his Donald. Texas Service Dogs is adopting him out as a pet, not as a service dog, because of his age. He is available to a special human who needs a little miracle in their lives.
