UK’s Daily Record has the back story on Kai.
ICYMI, Kai is the Shar Pei that captured a million hearts across the world when he was abandoned at the Ayr railway station in Scotland with a suitcase of his belongings.
According to the Daily Record, Kai’s abandonment was the result of a sale gone wrong. Fin Rayner, 39, claims that she went to see Kai (whose real name has been revealed to be Pluto) with her 9-year-old asthmatic daughter after she saw an ad for the dog on UK classifieds site, GumTree.
Rayner spoke to the Daily Record to share her side of the story:
“I went to buy a dog but the dog was not the same as the picture advertised. The guy rushed out with a food chest and lead on the dog. But I could see there was something up because he was very skinny. I said I wanted to take the dog for a walk, so he asked me for £150 as a deposit in case I didn’t come back. Then I saw him tearing off in his car. I phoned and said ‘You better come back for your dog’. He never turned up.”
Unsure of what to do next, Rayner, who was in a hurry to catch the last train home with her daughter decided to tie the dog up at the railway station and informed a member of the railway staff of Kai’s presence.
“What about me and my daughter, what we had to go through? I told somebody, I made sure the dog was safe.” said Rayner.
However, in positive news, the attention Kai’s picture got has helped the Scottish SPCA raise over £2500 for Kai’s care while he’s in the process of being rehomed.
