This is no fisherman’s tale – it’s a true story of what one aquarium does to make life better for dogs.

Meet Peach, a 10-month-old Dachshund/Terrier mix.

She was found abandoned, tied to a dumpster. She has scars on her back – perhaps from heat exposure, or possibly burns from the hot dumpster. But things are looking up for this little trooper now. She made her way from a shelter to the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago, and from there to Shedd Aquarium, where she was adopted as part of their ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Now she’s receiving care and attention, and the aquarium’s trainers are using positive reinforcement to teach her the basics, like how to walk on a leash or sit on command.

Peach is the sixth rescue Shedd has adopted since 2013. Her new friends and cohorts include Dory, a female shepherd mix; Marlin, a male Labrador mix; and Kobe, a 3-year-old male Dogo Argentino mix. Two other dogs, Bruce and Coral, moved on to family homes after their stay at Shedd. If the names are familiar, it’s because they’re all named after characters from ‘Finding Nemo.’

Eventually, Peach might participate in Shedd’s “One World” presentations, which illustrate the connections between humans and animals. We’re grateful to Shedd for giving this sweet pup a fresh start and doing their part to encourage love and respect between people and animals. Thank you, Shedd Aquarium – keep up the good work!
