Over the past few decades, we’ve seen a huge shift in how people bring dogs into their lives. These days more and more people adopt dogs from shelters and rescues instead of from places like backyard breeders and puppy stores. This is great, but there’s ALWAYS room to get another potential pup parent to adopt not shop.
Best Friends, the biggest organization and sanctuary for abandoned and abused animals, made this incredible PSA to spread the word about where pet shop puppies really come from. They released a study revealing that more than two in five Americans (43 percent) still don’t know that virtually all pet stores obtain their dogs from puppy mills, which tend to operate with an emphasis on profits, rather than animal welfare.
Best Friends’ PSA aims to bring awareness to the 1 in 5 (17 percent) of folks who purchase dogs at a local pet store instead of going to a shelter or rescue. If the fact is that many people just don’t know the facts, together we can spread the word!
