MARS Petcare and PetSmart have issued a nationwide recall of 4 oz bags of their Nutro Chewy Apple treats for possible mold contamination. In a year where we’ve had nearly a dozen recalls for Listeria and Salmonella, recalling a product for mold is definitely unexpected, and mold toxicity can pose serious health risks to your dog.

According to Pet Poison Helpline, a dog can have a moderate to severe reaction to eating moldy food, depending on the specifics of the circumstance. Neither MARS nor PetSmart has stated that there have been any reported health issues associated with this voluntary recall.
